Description:
Econometrics professor Eric Bettinger created this site inspired
by his belief that undergraduate students respond and learn more deeply
when they can relate personally to the subject matter in the lesson examples.
At this site, there are thirty-three support sections devoted to topics
in econometrics, calculus, and statistics. Designed to be adjunct learning
support to the Econometrics undergrads in Dr. Bettinger's course, each
topical module contains three sections:
The Review section contains background material and
class-discussed support material to define and orient the student to
the concept.
The Interactive example contains a fun-to-practice,
lighthearted interactive exercise which teaches econometrics calculations
through gathering and manipulation of data pertinent to the undergraduate
student's personal interests. Whimsical subjects such as student dating
ratios, jumping contests, and imagined meetings with movie stars in
the campus coffeehouse are featured in these examples. The student receives
feedback through multiple choice decision quizzes.
The Real World example tackles a more serious and generally
common topic from the business, government, or NGO world of econometrics.
Similar in intent and presentation to the Interactive example, the subject
matter and data of the real world modules concern such topics as World
Bank calculations, population projections, and analysis of various statistical
bunches of real data.
The series of modules on Econometrics concludes with a Document
Archive of course-related articles. |
